Creating Artwork

1. FULL & HALF PAGE ADS – Whilst it is ok to bleed colours and pictures to the edges, we recommend that any text or logos should be at least 5mm in from any edge – this will avoid any problems caused by fold and trim fluctuations during printing.

2. BLEED (FULL & HALF PAGE ADS) – 5mm bleed must be added to all edges.

3. It is essential that all copy be proofed prior to submitting to publishers (proofing is the responsibility of the advertiser).

4. If incorrect material is supplied there will be a charge for conversion.

5. The binding of the publication will be stapled.

6. MATERIALS REQUIRED: Complete and final artwork should be provided in the following formats:

PREFERED FORMAT: PDF Version 1.3/1.4 (We can not accept other versions)
(Please use the PDF/X1a:2001 setting).
(1) PDF files to be supplied as composite CMYK.
(2) Files must be supplied as single pages.
(3) Where necessary a bleed area of 5mm must be contained within the file.
(4) Files must contain trim marks, which must be outside the bleed area. Trim marks should be supplied to trim size and not text area. Live matter should be at least 5mm away from trim.
(5) Files must contain all images in high resolution (300 dpi minimum), and in CMYK format.
(6) All fonts must be embedded.
(7) Files should not contain any True Type or MultipleMaster fonts, original JPEG images, or copydot scan elements as they can perform unpredictably at press.
(8) Overprint settings need to be applied by the file creator. The printer will not adjust or check these.
(9) Files must be supplied as single pages with only one ad per file.
(10) Pages must be supplied upright and read left to right.
(11) No password or security options should be allocated to the Distiller settings
(12) Combined colour ink density must not exceed 300%.

IMPORTANT – Please flightcheck your files before submitting.
When checking please ensure the following (any artwork that does not meet this criteria will be rejected):
(1) PDF 1.3 or 1.4 compatibility.
(2) Image resolution between 280dpi and 450dpi
(3) All fonts are embedded
(4) Colour = CMYK
(5) Content of digital files must be verified and all relevant graphics and fonts must be included.

We can also accept the following formats:

QUARKXPRESS – up to version 7 (NOT QUARK PASSPORT)

ILLUSTRATOR – up to version CS3

PHOTOSHOP – up to version CS3

FREEHAND – up to version 10

COLOUR: All supporting elements (logos, pictures etc) must be supplied as CMYK files at 300dpi in the following formats: Tiff, EPS (NOT QUARK), JPG. RGB and spot colours will be converted to CMYK prior to printing. We are not responsible for any change in quality due to colour conversion. BLEED: Please allow 5mm bleed on all edges.

6. PROOFS: We require a digital proof for advertisements supplied. Blue Orange Media will not accept responsibility for any errors that result due to the non-provision of a hard copy proof. Proofs must have been generated from the PDF or file supplied. Proofs must be 100% of final size, colour contract proofs - either Cromalin (digital), Scitex Iris.proofs or Kodak Approval. Minimum 300 dpi.

7. FILE TRANSFER METHODS:
IMPORTANT: File names must contain your Booking Ref Code. The Booking Ref Code can be found on the mechanical specifications sheet sent at time of order. If you do not know the booking Ref Code please contact Haley at admin@blueorangemedia.com and she will advise.
We can accept files on CD or via our FTP site. We do not accept artwork via email.
